Stephen, one of the seven chosen to serve the early church, was a man so full of grace and the Holy Spirit that even his accusers could see something different about him. When brought before the council on false charges, his face appeared like the face of an angel, not because of anything he manufactured, but because he knew God was with him. Rather than simply defending himself, Stephen preached a sweeping history of Israel to make one bold point: God cannot be confined to a building, a ritual, or a single place. As he was stoned to death, Stephen looked up and saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God, and with his final breath, he asked God to forgive those who were killing him. His story is a powerful reminder that true faith shows up under pressure, that forgiveness is not weakness but freedom, and that God is present with His people everywhere, not just inside church walls.
